We are thrilled to share that Big Y has selected the Housatonic Valley Association to benefit from the Community Bag Program this September. The Big Y Community Bag Program makes it easy for shoppers to contribute to their local communities, and our team couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity.
Every time a $2.50 reusable Community Bag is purchased at the Big Y in Torrington, CT (504 Winsted Rd), $1 will be donated to support HVA’s work to protect the natural resources and environmental health of the entire region, from the Berkshires, through western CT and eastern NY, to Long Island Sound. This includes our river restoration projects that protect towns from flooding, our initiatives to protect important wildlife habitats, and paid internship opportunities for the next generation of environmentalists.
Since the Big Y Community Bag Program began in 2019, the supermarket has donated over $565,000 to 2,035 organizations, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be a benefiting nonprofit in September. The Big Y Community Bag Program makes it easy for shoppers to support their communities and environment by buying durable, reusable shopping bags. The bags are made from 95% recycled materials from either nonwoven or woven polypropylene.
