Smart solutions begin with strong science.
HVA and our Stream Team volunteers monitor the changing chemistry and flow of rivers and streams to detect changes over time and identify problematic “hot spots” where we can focus solutions.
Along the way, we identify plants and river bugs that are sensitive to pollutants and other changes in the environment. When these species are present, it’s a good sign! When they’re not, we explore why.
Stream Team members also monitor culverts and bridges at road/stream crossings to ensure that they’re fish-friendly and storm ready.

Our GIS department combines data from all of our field teams with the most reliable data available from our partners to produce visual representations of data that are easy to understand and act upon. Check them out!
