Invasive Species

Our natural spaces are under attack from foreign invaders!

Invasive species (both plants and animals) are one of the largest threats to our natural environments. Invasive species in our region include:

  • More than 70 species of plants;
  • Nearly 30 species of insects;
  • Several species of mollusks (snails, mussels) and crustaceans (crabs, crayfish);
  • Didymos algae (“rock snot”)

Combatting them is a constant challenge.
