In January 2025, the Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) was awarded $35,000 by the Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration to support the organization’s Berkshires Clean, Cold & Connected Partnership and a dam removal study in Pittsfield. HVA works with numerous partners in Berkshire County—across the Housatonic, Hoosic, and Farmington River watersheds—to restore and protect freshwater ecosystems, improve water quality, and reduce flooding. The partnership plays a vital role in ecological restoration efforts, such as dam removals and culvert replacements, ensuring that rivers remain healthy, free-flowing, and resilient for both wildlife and local communities.
